The Wellness Wheel
“Don’t reinvent the wheel, just realign it” Anthony J.D’Angelo
When we are feeling drained, stuck or simply going through the motions, it can often feel daunting to know where to begin. One of my favorite activities to do with a new client is The Wellness Wheel. Much like a wheel on a car, the tires must be smooth and level on all sides to create momentum moving forward. When our tires are flat or uneven it creates more work to keep moving.
The Wellness Wheel is divided into the Eight Dimensions of Wellbeing:
Physical - energy, movement, eating well, quality sleep
Mental/Emotional - mindset, stress management, emotions
Social - friendships, connections, belonging
Recreation/Fun - hobbies, downtime, joy outside of work
Financial - budgeting, saving, money management
Career/Occupational - satisfaction with job, leadership roles
Home/Environment - safe, comfortable, supportive space
Spirituality - meaning, purpose, values, sense of connection
Within each divided chunk of the wheel lies a 1-10 rating, 1 being the lowest, in which you rate your satisfaction in each dimension. As you go around coloring each dimension on your wheel, you will noticed some areas are indented, others closer to the outside, creating a wheel like shape. Once finished with all dimensions, pretend your wheel is attached to a car and attempt to drive it. Would your ride be smooth or bumpy? Would it be difficult or easy for your car to continue going? Which areas have the most/least attention?
I will be diving deeper into each of these dimensions over the next eight weeks, providing thoughtful questions and ideas to incorporate into your Wellness Wheel, prompting a smoother ride. In the meantime, send me your Wellness Wheels, I would love to see them :)
